Microbial host identified!

October 2025
SYNFEED has reached another important step in its research journey. The microorganism that will synthesize the SYNFEED protein has been identified: a hydrogen-oxidizing strain capable of producing proteins by consuming hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide. This unique ability not only enables efficient protein production, but also contributes directly to the sustainability of the process.

To validate its potential, the research team successfully engineered the strain by making it produce a fluorescent protein. This achievement marks a key milestone, confirming that the chosen host can be adapted and optimized for advanced protein production.
The next stages of the project will focus on further genetic engineering to optimize the microorganism for high yield and fast production rates. Step by step, SYNFEED is paving the way towards a more sustainable and independent future for animal feed in the EU, turning groundbreaking science into real-world impact.
